inspiration

My art is an outgrowth of years of playing with clay and years spent in bible study. My work is a perfect intersection of my desire to create something with my hands, my love of color and my faith in God. The words on my art remind me to love others, to give thanks, to seek justice and above all to trust God.........words I try to live by. My greatest joy is creating a piece of art with words that speak to my clients and to their hearts. 

Process 

My pieces are made out of stoneware clay. I begin by rolling the clay into a large slab.  I choose the lace and roll it onto the clay (using an old fashioned rolling pin) to create the texture and patterns. The piece is then bisque fired to cone 06. I apply a black underglaze to make the pattern pop and then I apply the color via some pretty small paint brushes and a steady hand.  I really enjoy combining colors that create contrast. Finally I glaze fire the pieces to cone 6. For the crosses I choose beads to bring out the colors and string them for you to hang. The hearts and houses are wired in the back for hanging.
